Admission Policies

Attendance at VCA is a privilege and not a right.  Students are admitted on the basis of their desire and the support of their parents for Christ-centered education.  The privilege to attend may be lost by any student or parent who is not in harmony with either the rules or the spirit of the school.

Nondiscriminatory policy:
Vann Drive Christian academy admits students of any denomination, race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the academy.  VCA does not discriminate on the basis of  denomination, race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its admission policy, educational policy, and other school-administered programs.

Requirements:
A student will be considered for admission to VCA after the parents and student have had an interview with the administrator.  Parents are given an opportunity to ask questions and tour the facility.  All academic records should be brought by the parents for this interview.

Once the interview has been conducted, a submission of the application must take place.  The following information must also be submitted:

-Financial Contract
-Transfer Request Form

The Academy also requires copies of the student’s birth certificate, Social Security card, and immunization records.  Students transferring from another school may not have to submit this information, unless the previous school does not transfer it.

Acceptance of a student is made on an individual basis and is contingent upon a satisfactory interview with the school administrator and pastor.

Aptitude/achievement test scores, placement tests, previous academic history, and references will be considered.  Kindergarten students must be five years old on or before August 15.  First grade students must be six years old on or before August 15.  The administration reserves the right for proper grade placement.  When all forms have been properly submitted, an interview has been conducted, and all required fees paid, the student is accepted for admission.

At least one parent must attend the parent/student orientation.  This meeting is held on Tuesday evening after the first day of school.

A probationary period of 4-6 weeks is required of all new students for final placement in grades.  During this time period, the faculty and administration will observe the student’s attitude and actions to see if the student’s philosophy aligns with VCA philosophy.  A meeting will be scheduled when deemed necessary.

New student testing:
Each new applicant will be tested if deemed necessary, and the results of the test may be discussed with the parent or guardian.  The school office will set an appointment at the meeting if testing is required.  Each student will take an IQ test, subject-related tests, and a reading comprehension test.  The testing program at VCA has been adopted for the following reasons:

  1. To inform the school of the child’s educational progress.
  2. To assure placement in the grade for which the student is qualified.
  3. To prevent enrollment of students having academic problems which VCA is not equipped to handle.

Re- enrollment policy:
Re-enrollment will take place in February-June of each year.  To be re-enrolled a student must be acceptable, academically and otherwise, and must submit a re-enrollment form along with the re-enrollment fee.
